The tech community donates $1 million to Centraide of Greater Montreal

Techaide, a non-profit organization bringing together the major players in Montreal’s technology community, is proud to announce that thanks to the activities and campaigns organized by companies, $1 million was donated to Centraide of Greater Montreal to fight against poverty and social exclusion. Techaide’s goal is to continue its momentum and raise $10 million by 2027.

“I would like to thank the exceptional creativity and commitment of Montreal’s large technology community, whose great generosity has made it possible to raise a record contribution of $1 million in 2021. Since 2016, a total of $2.3 million has been donated to Centraide of Greater Montreal thanks to the generosity and commitment of more than 100 companies and 5,000 people. This donation will enable Centraide to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable people in our society while building inclusive communities, with the support of its network of 350 front-line community agencies”, says Alan MacIntosh, co-president of Techaide.

Techaide brings together Montreal’s tech companies, including Behaviour Interactive, Carebook, Dialogue, Google, Mila, Real Ventures et Moov AI. In addition to numerous corporate campaigns with Centraide, a dozen philanthropic initiatives involving volunteering, fundraising and in-kind donations were carried out, such as: a conference on artificial intelligence, a conference with the video game industry, a children’s toy drive and virtual cafés with industry leaders.

“People experiencing poverty and social exclusion have been hit hard by the health crisis. On the ground, the demand for services has reached new heights. I would like to highlight the initiative of the Montreal tech community. It is thanks to this kind of philanthropic initiative that community organizations can be supported in their daily work”, says Claude Pinard, President and Executive Director of Centraide of Greater Montreal.

Key findings of the engagement of the tech ecosystem

Techaide highlights, in its report “Social impact and philanthropic responsibility: Portrait of the Montreal Technology Community“, the charity engagement of tech companies in Montreal. It also aims to strengthen the sector’s giving culture and inspire more companies and individuals to be involved in community engagement.
