Disability and technology: can we combine them for a more inclusive world?

In this talk, the main goal is to offer the audience a new outlook on disability and how technology can be one of the means to bring back to society incredible and resilient people who are excluded by lack of empathy. As a technologist, I want to raise awareness that we can use our production to promote inclusion and diversity. According to the WHO, one billion people in the world live with one or more types of disability. Those numbers raise the question: are they still a minority?

I’ll start with a quick personal and professional presentation and talk about my startup and its mission, which is to empower people with invisible disabilities to live their best lives. I’ll talk about the definition and types of disability and how ethical and human-centred design can create technology products that can bring back to everyday life people who cannot outperform by lack of appropriate assistive devices and solutions.

Why are you interested in participating at Product4Good?

Time urges that we use technology ethically to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities so they can live their best lives and be as productive as anyone else. As a technologist and a person with disabilities, I’d like to propose a new outlook on how we can address it. The Product4Good conference mission aligns the visibility of the subject and adds to the community.

According to the WHO, more than 1 billion people in the world live with one or more types of disability. It’s way to many people to be not addressed.

Ethical technology and human-centred products have the power to positively transform societies. Why not combine them to include those so long stigmatized and left behind?
